FREE PATTERN: Orange Motif

I found an old pictures of fruit/flower motifs, they looks so yummy for me today (it is rainy outdoors almost for a week here) :)

Orange Motif Instructions

Start: use magic loop to avoid big hole at the center.

Round 1: Ch 1 and 12 sc (single crochet, US Terms) in ring = 12 sts total.

Round 2: Ch 4 (counted as a first tc (treble crochet, US Terms), 1 tc in first st,  2 tc in each next st = 24 sts total.

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, (1 sc in next 3 sts, 3 sc in next st) - 5 times = 36 sts total.

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3 sts, 3 sc in next st, (1 sc in next 5 sts, 3 sc in next st) - 5 times, 1 sc in last st = 48 sts total.

With the WS (wrong side) facing up, join new yarn and work 1 sl st in each sc space: chains on the WS, stripes on the RS (right side). Turn the motif so the RS is facing up and pull out the yarn on the WS (yes, you need to cut it*). Insert a hook into any space of Round 2 (at the top of tc), grab a thread and make 1 sl st in each top-tc space (4 sl sts between the corners total) except the sts below the corners. Work corners decoration: pull out a small amount of yarn (not the whole tail), 2 yarn overs and make 1 tc into sc of the first round. 4 sl st again and 1 tc in the sc below (6 tc total). Fasten off and weave in ends.

* Tip: I make the first draft motif decoration on RS only. Then I cut the yarn, rip it and measure the length needed. Then I work with the ready yarn tails and easily pull them out.

  1. How do you make the pentagon needed for the hexagon slippers using this motif?

  2. Sorry! I hope it isn't too late...

In same manner: you need to skip "one corner" stitches: rounds 1-2 should be worked as written, and rounds 3-4: replace 3 sc in same st with 1 sc (one time/for one side only).
